Common Roots Urban Farm Newsletter Week #12

Posted on August 30th, 2021 by Josh Poodry

Thank you all for your understanding and support during the past week. The time we were afforded was a valuable reboot that both Terra and I are grateful for. In the extra time we were afforded, I got to thinking about what keeps piquing my interest about farming. I thought I could share a little insight as to what came to mind.

I've always appreciated the physicality of manual labor. I worked landscaping and hardscaping for many years before becoming a farmer. I loved accomplishing big projects and reflecting on the progress of a hard days work. I've found similar moments since becoming a farmer. The farm is a perpetual project and we are constantly learning and trying to improve our skill sets. And at the end of the day, admiring the fruits (both literal and figurative) of our labor is extremely rewarding.

While manual labor is a major factor contributing to my continued interest in farming, there are other factors that play a lesser role but still deserve to be mentioned:

  • Always been a big fan of playing in the dirt
  • Watching things grow never ceases to blow my mind
  • Being outside is always where I want to be
  • Pretty loose dress code
  • I believe in the access to good food
  • Everyday is a dog day
  • Talking to people is fun

I will continue to cherish being able to do what I love and we thank you all for being so thoughtful and compassionate when we need it the most. \

Eat well and enjoy.
