Harvesting carrots has always been a chore. In the past they have been misshapen and reluctant to pull out due to our clay-heavy soil. It was always a gamble and I was perpetually wary of what was going to come out of the ground. Things have changed...

This year we are growing carrots for the first time in our newest field, Field F, the largest field we have. When it was created about 5 years ago, we ensured that it was flush with compost and incorporated thoroughly. Since then the soil has developed really well and consistently produces great crops and carrots are no exception.

We are harvesting the best carrots we have ever grown; long, straight, beautiful carrots that taste as good as they look. No more agonizing about whether what was going to come out of the ground would be adequate to put in our shares. No more worrying about having enough carrots to supply the CSA and bring to market. Those days are in the past.

I have really enjoyed growing and pulling carrots this year. It feels good to be confident and excited about them. I hope you are excited and enjoying our carrots as well!

Eat well and enjoy.
