Common Roots Urban Farm Newsletter Week #7

Posted on July 19th, 2021 by Josh Poodry

Returning from vacation is bittersweet. After spending the week with amazing friends, eating incredible food and relaxing with the doggos, it's tough to be excited to get back to the grind. The dreariness and rain on our day of return did nothing to boost enthusiasm for our return to the real world either.

However, in the back of our minds, Terra and I were both looking forward to seeing how the farm had progressed in our absence. We were excited to see how things had grown, how pest pressure has increased or decreased, and how Bill (our employee) had fared in his first solo harvest.

Much to our pleasure, beds were filling out with crops, Mother Nature had provided us with plenty of irrigation in our week away, and our cooler had some nicely harvested veggies. There were also some developments that were less awesome. The introduction of spider mites on the leaves of our cucumbers has us a little on edge, along with extensive leaf hopper advancement on several other crops. But on the whole, things are great.

It was nice to have a vacation and then a day (Sunday) to re-acclimate to being back, unpack and refocus. I can't believe we rapidly approaching August! -DEEP BREATH-

We are now excited for the rest of the season and to continue to bring you the best of what we got!

Eat well and enjoy
