Farm Happenings for October 19th, 2022

Posted on October 16th, 2022 by Mike Finger

The customization period for this coming Wednesday's (October 19th) farm share is now OPEN and will remain so until midnight, Sunday (10/16).  If you'd like to review or edit the items in your harvest NOW is the time to do so.  Once again, we have a robust list of crops available for this week's harvest , so if you do want to delete, swap, or add items you have some choices available to you.  If the link in this email doesn't connect you to your customization page, you can always log directly into your Harvie member account and customize from that location.

This Week's Photo: We have been cleaning up the Brussel's Sprout beds recently to make harvest more efficient and pleasant (no dried up weed stalks poking us in our eyes, thank you.) Of course, farm dog Manny never misses out on assisting us with such field work, and true to form he threw himself into the task, removing a brussel stalk w/ a rotting stem (but still loaded with many nice sprouts on which he later gnawed .) The companionship of a bright, sweet, and oftimes goofy canine partner is one the delightful side benefits of operating this farm and helps to speed the work along.  Fall is with us solidly now. We have picked the last of the season's Basil and cucumbers, with eggplants not far behind.  The pepper beds are still producing lovely red, gold, and orange fruit, and somehow the tomatoes keep trucking on, though surely their days too are numbered.  We've enjoyed eating our first Delicata squash of the year, but we are determined to eat as many  tomato, cucumber, and feta cheese salads as the fading season will allow. A major shift in the weather is predicted to arrive by week's end and it looks like a good NW soaker will finally relieve the parched land and farm of its desiccated condition.  We are ready for the change and grateful for the long and warm growing season we experienced this season.

Thanks for your membership and support ~ and THANKS for the boxes many of you have been returning each week!

Yours,

Mike, Kim, and Crew
