Farm Happenings for October 12th, 2022

Posted on October 9th, 2022 by Mike Finger

The customization period for this coming Wednesday's (October 12th) farm share is now OPEN and will remain so until midnight, Sunday (10/9).  If you'd like to review or edit the items in your harvest NOW is the time to do so.  Once again, we have a robust list of crops available for this week's harvest , so if you do want to delete, swap, or add items you have some choices available to you.  If the link in this email doesn't connect you to your customization page, you can always log directly into your Harvie member account and customize from that location.

This Week's Photo: Brussels' Sprouts make their first appearance in the harvest this week. They are yet another example of the crazy diversity present in Brassicas, a clan of vegetables that includes such types as Arugula,  Bok  Choi, Cauliflower, Mustards, Broccoli, Kale, Turnips, Radishes, and Kohlrabi, to name only a few.  If some terrible plague were to strike this family of crops, our farm and your dinner table would be profoundly diminished.  Fortunately, we live in a great climate for this group of plants and with attention to variety, soil fertility, and crop rotation, we've managed for 34+ years to grow a broad selection of brassicas with fairly few problems (enough, though, to make us always alert when growing them).
