Pork Share Happenings for September 14, 2022

Posted on September 11th, 2022 by Mike Finger

Greetings Friends:

You are receiving this notice because you have signed up for an Alluvial Farms Pork Share through the Cedarville Farm CSA. This coming Wednesday, September 14th, will be the first of 4 monthly deliveries (Late Season Share) of delicious pork products made from free ranging hogs raised at Alluvial Farm east of Everson.  Matt Mcdermott and Katie Pencke (pictured above in one of their grain fields with their son, Ramone) own and operate Alluvial Farm and have dedicated themselves to creating both a sustainable and humane pork enterprise. They raise on site much of the grain and other feed stuffs they use to nourish their hogs, while providing the animals with regular access to their ample pastures.  When processing time comes, Matt and Katie are present and fully engaged to insure the animals are treated with respect and gentleness (they process on site at the farm).  The meat Alluvial Farm produces is delicious and of the highest quality available anywhere.  We are delighted and honored to partner with Matt and Katie to bring you this excellent, sustainable, and local food.

This year's Pork Share is customizable, so you may (depending on what was available this month and your own preferences) be able to swap some of the items on this month's harvest list for another available pork cut.  You may also be able to purchase extra pork items beyond what is on your list. We have never offered this type of meat share before, so let us know how the swapping feature worked for you. Here is a help document that describes how the swapping process works.  The customization period will end at 11:59 Sunday evening.  You will receive a final email Tuesday evening confirming the contents of your Pork Share and also your pickup details for Wednesday (pickup site name and location, pickup site host, and approximate delivery time).

Due to the perishable nature of fresh meat, it is essential you pickup your Pork Share the day of delivery (Wednesday).  Your pork products will be individually packed and frozen and assembled together in a quilted freezer bag , so they will maintain their frozen state for several hours. If you are receiving a vegetable share box, we will stack your vegetable and pork shares together at your pick up site. If you are not receiving a vegetable share, your Pork Share will be packed in freezer bag and delivered in a wax box labelled with your name and a list of the items you are receiving that delivery.  Be sure to take only the delivery box labelled with your name.

If you are unable to pickup your Pork Share by early Thursday morning, please contact us so we can arrange for your site host to hold it for you until alternate pickup arrangements are made. IMPORTANT: Please return the quilted delivery bags your share is packed in when you come for your next delivery.  It's important to Alluvial Farm's budget health that they be able to reuse these cold product bags several times.  Thank You!

We hope you enjoy your first Pork Share of the Fall Season!  Please don't hesitate to contact us if you should have any questions or encounter any difficulties picking up your share.

Yours, Mike & Kim
