Farm Happenings for September 3, 2022

Posted on September 1st, 2022 by Mike Finger

The customization period for this coming Saturday's (September 3rd) farm share is now OPEN!  If you'd like to review or edit the items in your harvest NOW is the time to do so.  Once again, we have a robust list of crops available for this week's harvest , so if you do want to delete, swap, or add items you have some choices available to you.  If the link in this email doesn't connect you to your customization page, you can always log directly into your Harvie member account and customize from that location.

We do our share of worrying about our changing climate (atmospheric, that is; the political sphere is another topic...), so it comes with some small amount of relief to feel the cooling temperatures in the evening and mornings and that fog hangs over the adjacent pastures now and leaves are taking on yellow and orange hints. Summer fades to fall, right on schedule. The changes are incremental, but if we stop and focus our memory on how the garden looked a month ago, we are taken aback at how quickly things are slowing and even declining.  In terms of the solar year, the light we are receiving now is equivalent to that which fell upon us in mid April, the uncompromising difference being that in April day length was increasing every hour, whereas now it is in steady decline.  The plants, the critters, and us know this even if we don't talk of it. We are moving toward the darker side of the season, nature seems to say, so make your seed, prepare for the next cycle, and eat more caprese salads!

Thanks for your membership and companionship on this delicious and surprising voyage through the farming year.
