Farm Happenings for October 21, 2020

Posted on October 17th, 2020 by Mike Finger

Later this week it's predicted to dip into the low 30's, so we'll be pulling out all of the row cover fabric we have available and installing it over as many sensitive crops as we can.  We'll go through the tomato, pepper, and eggplant beds and pull off everything that looks good (all have been loaded into the Harvie system for this week), and put a double cover on the Celery to keep it safe from harm.  Today's photo shows Ashley on the tractor pulling a disc through our harvested onion and garlic beds.  In another section, the crew is preparing ground for our 2021 crop of Garlic which we hope to plant in the next few weeks.  Already we are talking about the season's successes and stumbles; I am so impressed with our crew that they have the enthusiasm and energy  to be contemplating the next growing season already!

This week's "Extras" list (items available to purchase separately to add to your regular harvest list for the week):

* Honey Crisp Apples (grown at Clound Mt. Farm Center using Integrated Pest Management methods.)  * Bulk Organic Carrots (Hopewell Farm)  *  Organic Yellow, Red, and Fingerling potatoes (First Cut Farms, Mt. Vernon)

And from Cedarville Farm: * Garlic  * Leeks  *  Savoy Cabbage  *  Slicing Tomatoes  * Cilantro
