Farm Happenings for May 29, 2020

Posted on May 27th, 2020 by Christina Houston

This week we our cabbage is super ready to be picked. We still have tons of lettuce, kale, and spinach. Our green beans are slowly starting to increase as we harvest each morning. Our Asparagus is also growing, but not enough to offer in our shares. If there is enough for everyone, it will be put in as an add-on before the cut-off time to preview your box. Please remember that the pick-up time for your box is 2pm, not 1. This is to ensure everyone's is finished on time. Some may wonder what goes into making a box so I would like to break it down.

When your orders are finalized, I take the time to print the labels for the boxes and the contents. Most everything is picked the very morning of your delivery. It is taken to the processing room to be cleaned and packaged. All greens are soaked in cold saltwater for about 15-30 minutes then rinsed under cold water.  If unsure where to store greens, they work best in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator.

This week, I made infused water with chocolate mint. I used a 1/2 gallon water jug with about 10 leaves, crushed to release mint properties, filled with water then sat in the refrigerator for 2 days. The mint was very light and made the water taste very fresh. In the future, I'll be experimenting with different mints and fruits to create more infused waters.

I hope you enjoy this week's box!
