CSA Starts Soon!

Posted on June 9th, 2021 by Matt Frank

Hello Big River Farms (BRF) CSA Member!

Our 2021 CSA season starts with your first veggie share deliveries on Wednesday, June 16th. Thank you for choosing BRF as your trusted CSA partner. All of the food distributed through our program is 100% certified organic and non-GMO. We have 13 teams in our farmer education program this year who can choose to sell food for use in our weekly CSA shares based on their market needs and produce availability. This season, we have 7 farm teams with CSA produce contracts who will be growing and harvesting nutritious veggies just for you.

A friendly reminder - please pick up one herb pot with your first veggie share on June 16th. You'll find herb pots at your chosen CSA drop site, each containing parsley, sage, oregano, and thyme. These are a special member gift as an appreciation of our thanks. Simply keep them watered and fed with sunlight and you'll have fresh herbs all summer long, perfect for salads, cooking your favorite recipes, or using as garnishes in homemade cocktails or mocktails. A special shout out to volunteers and staff from Pillsbury United Communities who helped us plant 240 herb pots last week!

A second friendly reminder - please only take the custom veggie share with your name listed on the tote label. Reusable plastic CSA totes should remain at your drop site; just take the plastic bag inside with your chosen veggies. Each CSA share contains different types and quantities of produce based on each individual member's veggie preferences, swaps, and extra produce purchases. Additional details about how to customize your weekly CSA share can be seen here.

Joining our CSA is one of the most meaningful ways you can directly support local farmers from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Profits from CSA membership sales are used to purchase produce directly from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), female, and New American (immigrant and refugee) farmers who grow food at Big River Farms. Additionally, a percentage from each CSA share helps fund shared farmer resources that support the growth of local food businesses – including access to farmland and infrastructure, training, marketing support, and sales distribution channels.

Finally, if you know of anyone still looking to join a CSA this year, we have 1 full veggie share, 1 half veggie share, and 2 Everett Myers fruit shares still available for sale here.

Here's to another abundant year!
