Volunteer Spotlight - Naima Dhore

Posted on September 23rd, 2020 by Matt Frank

Big River Farms' CSA volunteers are an amazing, passionate, hard-working crew! This week, we're pleased to highlight Naima Dhore, a past farmer in BRF's education program, certified organic grower, and founder of the Somali American Farmers Association (SAFA).

A few years ago, Naima took part in our farmer training education program and grew organic produce here in Marine on St. Croix. She and her husband got into organic farming as a way to have more control over the health of themselves and their family. Now, she's in the process of finding 20 acres of land to purchase with the ultimate goal of growing organic food and promoting healthy eating through education, primarily in local Somali and African immigrant communities.

This year, Naima has joined us as a CSA packing volunteer. Each Wednesday morning, she helps us and other volunteers at the farm pack over 220 CSA shares with freshly grown produce for your enjoyment.
