Farming During COVID-19

Posted on August 12th, 2020 by Matt Frank

Earlier this summer, a local documentary film team named Northern Spotlight visited Big River Farms (BRF) and produced a great video highlighting our work. While here, they interviewed staff and farmers about how we've adapted to new changes and challenges due to COVID-19. Learn how we've shifted operations on the farm to remain resilient during the pandemic while meeting new market realities by watching this beautiful short film.

As the video mentions, COVID-19 has meant new restrictions, uncertainties, and reduced sales at local farmers markets where many BRF farmers also sell their produce. In addition to our CSA program, we've started a food bank distribution program this year. Each week, excess organic produce grown by our farmers that is not sold through our CSA is purchased by The Food Group using new grant funds. Then, it is distributed to over 12 local food shelves that have seen increased demand due to COVID-19 and the resulting economic recession. This is yet another way that we've adapted to the huge increase in demand for both local food and healthy food access during the pandemic. Thank you for your support!
