Farewell to the 2023 Season & Exciting Plans for 2024 at Schultz Family Farm!

Posted on December 15th, 2023 by Lynne Schultz

Dear CSA Family,

As we approach the end of the 2023 season, it's incredible to think that this is our final CSA basket delivery of the year. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for being part of our farm journey, for supporting us, and allowing our family to nourish yours with fresh produce.

While the curtains are closing on this year's season, we're already in full swing preparing for an even more exciting 2024! The farm is abuzz with preparations, and this week, I've been finalizing our order for an impressive 250,000 strawberry plants. Get ready for a fantastic fruit selection next year as we're expanding to include an array of raspberries—black, red, and yellow. Additionally, we're expecting flower plugs and seeds, ensuring an extensive variety of flowers, potting plants, hanging baskets, and a diverse range of herb and veggie plants.

Speaking of this week's baskets, as you prepare for your holiday meals, don't miss out on stocking up on our incredible veggies. We've got an abundance of root crops that'll add a unique touch to your festive dishes. Parsnips, turnips, carrots, and beets are in ample supply. Here are a couple of delicious recipes for each:

Parsnips:

  1. Honey-Glazed Roasted Parsnips: Coat parsnips with honey, olive oil, and a sprinkle of thyme before roasting until tender.
  2. Parsnip and Apple Soup: Simmer parsnips, apples, onions, and broth, then blend for a comforting soup.

Turnips:

  1. Miso-Glazed Turnips: Toss turnips in a miso glaze and roast until caramelized and tender.
  2. Turnip and Potato Mash: Boil turnips and potatoes together, then mash with butter and seasoning for a creamy side dish.

Beets:

  1. Balsamic Roasted Beets: Roast beets with balsamic vinegar, garlic, and herbs for a flavorful side.
  2. Beet Salad with Goat Cheese: Combine roasted beets with goat cheese, arugula, and a balsamic vinaigrette.

Carrots:

  1. Maple-Glazed Carrots: Roast carrots with maple syrup and thyme until they're tender and caramelized.
  2. Carrot and Ginger Soup: Simmer carrots, ginger, onions, and broth, then blend until smooth for a warming soup.

In addition to these, we've got an array of other goodies like cabbage, napa cabbage, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts available.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable season, our family extends our warmest wishes for a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year. Thank you for being part of our farm family and here's to an exciting 2024 ahead!

Warm regards,

The Schultz Family
