Farm Happenings for May 31, 2022

Posted on May 27th, 2022 by Lynne Schultz

Greetings from the farm,

Well what can we say other than the rain has brought out the bugs. We are dealing slugs and flea beetles in our greens right now. Especially now since we are move primary to outdoor harvesting. We are rinsing our greens after picking but please remember to wash you greens before eating them. We are pretty much picking you greens from the field. For us to wash and process the greens we have to a processing warehouse. Which we don't have yet but there plans in the making for one soon. Also with your greens you might find a few holes in them due us not spraying our greens. It is one of veggies we try not to spray at all for bugs due to the eating of them raw plus we have such a short turn around time on most of them.

This week we have nothing really new on the choices. I promise tomatoes, summer squash, zucchini, and cucumbers will be right around the corner. We do have mushrooms again since we finally got our mushroom finally up and running well. We do have strawberries again this week. We plenty of greens again this week. Talking about greens what is everyone's favorite salad dressing to put on your greens. Josh likes French and I like Caesar. But right now we are eating straight out of the field for meals just super busy. Hence again why we don't spray our greens.

Although we are super excited that school is finally done for our kids and our high school workers. That means we can start to get caught up on a few things around the farm. Plus Josh and I can take a breathe and have some help with pick and packing your veggies, fruits, and meats.

We will have U-pick this weekend Saturday 2pm to 4pm and Sunday 8 to noon or until the patch is picked through.

I hope everyone has safe Memorial Weekend,

The Schultz Family
