Farm Happenings for July 2, 2021

Posted on June 30th, 2021 by Lynne Schultz

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is staying cool and hydrated after this last heat wave. We have been trying to cool off in the evening by taking the kids down to our neighbor pond and going swimming. We also have been taking a break from the heat and either doing tractor work or computer work during the heat of the day. We have been picking early in the morning and late in the evening. We did get 1st cutting hay done this week. And now we need some rain. It has been missing us everyday and the irrigation systems are turn on.

With the Forth July weekend here we are trying to plan what we are going to eat for the holiday. All I know is swimming in the pond is on the list to do. I think new potato salad, pasta salad, and ribs are on the menu. Although we won't be celebrating the holiday to Sunday evening because Sunday morning we headed to the butcher shop with a beef and hog. If anyone is interested in quarter or half a beef please let us know. We will have a few available over the next few weeks. We just picked one up this week. Price is $2.95 a pound per hanging weight plus butchering. Average quarter of beef is ranging $650 to $750 depending on weight. A quarter of beef includes roast, steaks, short ribs, shanks, liver, ground hamburger, hot dogs, and hamburger patties.

Hope everyone has a safe 4th of July,

The Schultz Family
