Farm Happenings for June 23, 2022

Posted on June 20th, 2022 by Emily Hendrikx

Hey there,

Another week gone by and another week closer to the abundance of summer.  There are little zucchinis on the plants, the peas are covered in flowers, cabbages are starting to form, and there are tiny tomatoes developing under the clusters of flowers.

That was some wind this weekend.  We lost another tree, but considering some of the damage I have seen on other farms and gardens I think we got off lightly.  It seems that strong winds are becoming more of the norm and between wind and ice storms we are slowly losing many of our mature trees at the farm.  Fortunately, because we live in Wellington County, we can take part in the Green Legacy Program.  A program that grows thousands of trees and distributes them to residents every spring for free.  We have been planting these trees every year since 2014 and have slowly planted hundreds of trees.  Our next step will be a windbreak now that our neighbour has finally finished ripping up the tree/fence line.

You can never plant too many trees!
