Farm Happenings for November 10, 2020

Posted on November 6th, 2020 by Lisa Duff

This certainly is Indian summer in November. The feel of the daylight is so 'Fall heading towards Winter' but the temps are dreamy. We can't complain about working outside on days like today and we won't complain about the bit more time for the field crops. (We won't get into the concerns for such warm weather...)

As we await election results let's check in with our eating habits. Fall usually brings more family meals and game nights in our family. We eat more greens and I spend more time in the kitchen preparing cooler weather fall foods like squash soups, chilis and stews chock full of fall veggies. Freezing some greens this month for use later in the winter...greens like chard, kale, mustards, collards make an easy and healthy addition to a winter stew. Remember to google recipes with your CSA ingredients and check out the recipes from Harvie to find new and different ways to use your share. I find myself eating a big salad at lunch every day in the fall. My body signals me to eat more but if I eat super calorie dense foods in large quantities I may put on my 'winter coat' a bit too early. Salads quell my desire to eat quantity and help my body build up immunity for cold and flu season with lots of Vitamin C and antioxidants.

There are a few chickens for sale, cheese, bread, beanies and car magnets on the Extras page. No eggs this week but the newest flock, born in May, just started laying. Perhaps next week we will have extra eggs for sale.

Be Well & enjoy your weekend!
