Farm Happenings for July 21, 2020

Posted on July 17th, 2020 by Lisa Duff

We are on the verge of tomato season! Many of you had our ripe delicious slicing tomatoes or sweet, orange Sungold cherry tomatoes from the tunnels. The field tomatoes are just coming in now. There will be enough for everyone soon. Sweet Italian frying peppers are on the plants soon to turn red and yellow with twice as much flavor. Some of you will see sweet corn this week. It's hard to time the corn to have it ready for Tuesday but we'll do our best to get as much as we can! This is the first of two crops so fingers crossed. The first crop is usually the most dependable. Lots of pests like corn...and we don't spray it so this is why you don't see much Certified Organic sweet corn! There are baby eggplants and young cantaloupes on the vine too...summer is here!

Shaw peaches are for fruit share and we will sell extras. Cheese this week is Garlic Chive and the bread is Simple County Sourdough. Extra bread for ordering is Camelized Onion and Thyme, or Pecan cranberry.

On another note around the farm our new well was dug last month....it is finished and will be up and running soon. Woot Woot!  Oak Spring's original 50 foot hand dug well just couldn't keep up with our demand. The old well will be retired and we want to thank it for many years of solid service. We are so excited for this huge capital improvement. A shout out to Jones Well Drilling and the wonderful water 'witch', Ray Thomas, who found just the right spot with his freshly plucked 2 pronged cherry branch. 33 gallons per minute will take care of our watering needs from now on!
