Farm Happenings for July 7, 2020

Posted on July 2nd, 2020 by Lisa Duff

HAPPY Independence Day!

We feel independent from the commercial food system here at Oak Spring Farm. When Covid hit in March and the grocery stores ran low and out of food we didn't fret. Not once.

We raise our own chickens for eggs and meat. We source 100% grass fed local beef from Shady Spring farm and Ferguson Family Farm.  Local, pastured, sustainably raised lamb from Greene's and Feederbrook Farm (along with fiber) and pork from Crooked Fence and Sunset Valley. We source local raw milk dairy products (butter, cheese, sour cream, yogurt etc) from Daily Crisis and Sunset Valley Dairy, local honey from several sources, and bread from A Friendly Bread and The Contented Rooster and Dough Run. We make our own kombucha and fermented products (and supplement with Hex Ferments), preserve our harvest and of course we grow our own veg!

Thank you for supporting your local food system. We have local meat, cheese, eggs, honey and more for sale at the farm. If you want more information on sourcing food locally PLEASE ASK US. There are a lot of great resources out there (www.localharvest.org) to connect with local grown and made products.

Let's all celebrate Independence Day together with like mindedness about supporting local grown food and local made products. That lights my fireworks, how bout yours?

Bread share this week is Simple Country. Cheese and Butter shares will get butter this week and fruit share is either blueberries, plums, raspberries or some combination of those.

Cheers!
