We have Pawpaws and Asian Pears!

Posted on September 20th, 2021 by Kelly Morris

Hi! We have an abundance of pawpaws and Asian pears coming out of the fields. If you have a CSA share with us, you can ignore this farm stand email and just swap pawpaws or Asian pears into your share like you normally would. This special farm stand offering is for those who aren't CSA members.

Pawpaws are a tropical-like native fruit with a custard like consistency and a sweet taste somewhere between mango and banana. These fruits are great eaten right out of the skin (don't eat the skin or seeds) or delicious used in any recipe where you'd normally use a banana. They are a bit tedious to process due to their large seeds and slippery pulp, and they have a relatively short shelf life which is one of the reasons they aren't more popular and available in grocery stores. But they're only ripe for a few weeks every fall and we can't get enough of them while they're here!

Asian pears are closely related to the traditional pear you're familiar with. They are a bit crispier, more like an apple. They are juicy and delicious eaten raw, or can be used in any recipe where you'd use a pear.

When you come to pick up your order, tell Susan your name and she'll get it for you.
