Winter CSA Week 3

Posted on November 30th, 2020 by Kelly Morris

This week's veggie pick up will be Saturday, December 5th, 9am-1pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before we close to allow yourself time to gather your veggies. If you need an alternate pickup time this week or any week, please email me at farmer@homefields.org. I will be more than happy to accommodate your needs!

FARM UPDATE:  We're harvesting our persimmons this week. You may have noticed these trees with bright orange fruit growing along the road. We think our persimmons are a native variety and not one of the familiar Asian types. The ideal time to eat these is when they are super soft with some black spots on the skin. If they're eaten before they're very ripe, they'll leave a pretty awful astringent taste in your mouth. You can eat them raw (just watch our for the large flat seeds) or use them in baking. The skin is edible, but it may leave a gritty texture in some cooked recipes. If you are unsure about the ripeness of your persimmons, leave them sit out on the counter for a few days.

EXTRAS TO ADD TO YOUR SHARE: If you didn't order any add-ons (and even if you did), we will have mushrooms and bread to purchase as Extras each week of the Winter CSA. This week Stephanie is offering German Multigrain as the bread option.

Thank you for your continued support of our farm!

Your farmers,
Katie, Elizabeth, Brad, Brian, Christina, Kelly, Angie and Matt (and lots of awesome volunteers!)
