Harvie Farms New Orleans Week 4

Posted on December 17th, 2020 by Simon Huntley

Meet one of our farmers, William Fletcher from Fletcher Farms!

We had another great week of deliveries and now are preparing for Week 4 (wow already a month down!) Last week we got a chance to go out to Ponchatoula and meet with one of our farmers, William Fletcher of Fletcher Farms! William showed us around his farm and shared with us the story behind Fletcher Farms and how this year has impacted his business.

William grew up on the same land that he farms today. He is a fifth generation farmer focused on growing high quality produce and is best known for his beautiful and bountiful strawberries.

“I remember strawberries. Some of the earliest memories I have were right at daylight walking barefooted down to the packing shed to be with my grandparents, smelling honeysuckle and my feet being cold. I loved it out here.”

Despite the attempts of his father and grandfather to dissuade him from becoming a farmer he decided that this was his passion and his purpose in life is to feed others. After pursuing a career in the mortgage business, William returned home to Ponchatoula and decided he was going to restore the farm that he once ran around as a barefoot child.

He saw an opportunity to sell directly to customers and made local farmers markets a main focus of his business. He had great success selling across Baton Rouge and New Orleans however once  Covid-19 hit he was unable to reach the customers he once saw on a weekly basis.

“Even though we have been able to put on a farmers market in a different way it is still not something that everyone feels comfortable to attend and (with Harvie Farms New Orleans) now the same fresh produce sold at the farmer’s market can now be delivered to their door.”

He is excited to be a part of Harvie Farms New Orleans where he can reach these customers and others with his farms bounty safely from the comfort of their home.

We are all so grateful for your support as we continue to expand Harvie Farms New Orleans. Each box you purchase goes to directly support William and other farmers in the community so thank you! We continue to receive amazing feedback and are so happy to see you all enjoying these farm fresh goods!
