Farm Happenings for July 15, 2020

Posted on July 10th, 2020 by Joanna Winkler

Another hot week in the books! We got a big dump of rain early in the week which the plants really needed, and we're back to pretty dry by the end of this week. We did lots of harvesting including a bunch of new crops that you might see in your boxes this week! We started harvesting our new potatoes, which are potatoes harvested from a living plant. They have extremely tender skin and are higher in sugar, so they cook more quickly and should be kept in the fridge. Because they have extremely delicate skin, we give them a gentle wash but aren't able to clean all of the soil off of them without wrecking them. They'll probably look dirtier than potatoes you're used to buying, so you should definitely wash them before you cook them. We hope you enjoy them despite their humble appearance - they're a real seasonal treat!

We harvested these potatoes from our new farm! We'll be moving about 20 minutes from our current farm in 2021. We have some crops planted there, just potatoes and dry beans for the time being. We'll talk more about it in our newsletter this weekend, so stay tuned!
