Farm Happenings for June 10, 2020

Posted on June 5th, 2020 by Joanna Winkler

It's been a sad and angry week here at the farm. While we've been busy with our usual tasks like planting, harvesting and weeding, we've been thinking and talking about how we can contribute to the movement for black lives. We want to help immediately while fighting the outrage burnout cycle that we often fall into. In order to do this, we came up with a new add on share: a Solidarity Share. You can purchase it as an add on share to contribute $10 or $25 monthly to three amazing black farming organizations in Baltimore that we care deeply about - Black Yield Institute (https://www.blackyieldinstitute.org/programs), Farm Alliance's Urban Farm Resilience Fund (https://www.facebook.com/farmalliance/posts/3200954439924261)), and the Black Church Food Security Network (https://www.blackchurchfoodsecurity.net/). Please note the $10 option is currently still being fixed on our website, so check back if you'd like to select that option. Harvie has agree to donate the 7% transaction fee they take to these organizations, so the only admin cost is the credit card processing 2% fee. You can also make a one time donation to each or any of these three organizations in the Extras section of each week's CSA availability. Giving unrestricted funds such as these are a great way to empower organizations to do the work that they deem most urgent as opposed to relying on restricted funds from large, predominantly white foundations. Please let us know if you have any questions, and we hope you'll join us in contributing to a more racially just food system. Black Lives Matter.
