Farm Happenings for July 10, 2019

Posted on July 5th, 2019 by Joanna Winkler

Hi everyone! Hope you're having a great holiday weekend! It has been another hot and humid week on the farm so we've been doing our best to keep ourselves and the plants hydrated. We have gotten some good rain in the past couple of days (though it did make for a rainy holiday!) We are so excited to be harvesting summer vegetables and sharing them with you guys. And tomatoes are starting to trickle in! We're also trying to preserve our favorite crops while they're so bountiful by making pickles and freezing pureed basil. Here's our favorite quick pickle brine recipe (although we substitute some of the sugar for mirin.)

We also did big bulk harvests of all of our allium crops: garlic, red and white onions and shallots. Right now they're curing so that they develop the papery exterior skin that helps them to keep at room temperature for many months. They all turned out great and we're excited to share them with you in a few weeks!

A beautiful rainbow over the farm! We're lucky and get them a lot!

Garlic chopped across its middle - look at those big cloves!

The first few tomatoes are ripe!

Thanks everyone, have a great week!
