CSA WK 11 *please read note about cabbage*

Posted on September 9th, 2020 by Amy James

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to WK 11 of our CSA. We cannot believe we only have 2 weeks left!!

We were able to secure some Taber Corn again for this weeks delivery and are super excited to get that out to you! We have had several frosty mornings to date now, and this has really affected our squash/zucchini/cucumbers. We don't have any squash or zucchini for harvest this week, but our Golden Nugget Squash is continuing to flower, so hopefully we will be able to have some mature ones for next week. We do have a limited amount of cucumbers that we are harvesting this week, mostly pickling cucumbers. If these have been placed in your share for this coming week, they can sometimes have a bitter taste. Just peel them, and that will take care of it!! They are also delicious salted or in vinegar!

We have been able to get some different varieties of cabbage from our friends at Grey Arrow Farm for this weeks delivery. The majority will be a savoy cabbage. This cabbage is delicious, slightly milder in flavor to our green cabbage, and has distinctive crinkled leaves. This cabbage can be used interchangeably in recipes calling for cabbage. We will also be getting some caraflex cabbage. This cabbage has a cone shaped head, and its leaves are tender and sweet. It's great for use in stir fry's, salads or coleslaw. We are not sure how much of each we are able to get, so we have them placed them into the system as "savoy cabbage". For those members receiving more than 1 cabbage, we will do our best to ensure you receive one of each.

We hope each of you are doing well!

Your Farmers,

Chris and Amy James
