Farm Happenings for Week of July 7, 2020

Posted on July 1st, 2020 by Neil Stauffer

While we are giddy about all the new produce coming in, we want to start by giving a shout out to Neal and Cheryl Salyards from Jubilee Hilltop Ranch (pictured). Their family provides the beef, pork, rabbits, and pastured eggs for the Harvie Farms boxes. These hard-working and kind folks have been an innovative force in Western PA farming. From developing their own model of high-end grass-based meat production to starting their own USDA butcher shop to help eliminate some of the bottlenecks in the supply chain--we are proud to offer their products to you. Know that your support has especially made a difference for them during this pandemic season of uncertainly.

On the produce front, we hope you are enjoying the seasonal shift that happens in your boxes each week. At this point in my life it is difficult for me to separate the changing seasons from the changing produce that partners with it. Along with the benefits of eating fresh and organic foods, I hope you can continue to develop that satisfying sense of changing food seasons as well.

PACKAGING RETURNS Thank you so much to everyone who is making the effort to return your packaging to us. It is very much appreciated. We do want to emphasize how helpful it is if you can break down the cardboard box and then lay the folded insulated liner and ice pack on top of it for our couriers. If you have any questions or concerns about this detail, feel free to reach out directly to me. Thanks again.

CHEESE SHARE This week's cheese share will be the Meadow Delight from Adam Dean of Pasture Maid Creamery. It is a colby style cheese with a moist creamy texture and slightly nutty flavor. Enjoy!

NEW MEMBERSHIPS We appreciate all of the refer-a-friend memberships we have received over the last few weeks. Thanks for helping us spread the word. At this point, our members are the main way we are advertising our services. We trust that if you are enjoying Harvie Farms, your neighbors, friends, and family will as well. Here is the link to share with your contacts:

Have a great and safe holiday weekend!
Take care out there,
Neil, on behalf of the Harvie Farms Pittsburgh crew
