Farm Happenings for Week of June 23, 2020

Posted on June 16th, 2020 by Neil Stauffer

By the time you get your next delivery, it will be officially summertime. How exciting, right? New items like sugar snap peas and strawberries are starting to come into supply. We may not have enough for all boxes this week, but our diversity of produce will keep expanding each week.

I spoke to Chris Brittenburg of Who Cooks For You Farm this week. He is so excited about all of the produce they are growing this summer. The spring was such a challenge as they figured out how to adjust their plans due to the pandemic. They also had serious labor issues as some of their crew was stuck out of the country with work visa issues related to travel restrictions. But now the threat of frost is past and the planting and harvesting have begun in full force. This week's picture is Farmer Chris and his two boys posing in one of their fields, Cedar and Cyan. Thanks for supporting them and the collection of other local growers represented in your Harvie Farms box!

MORE FARM SHARE MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE

If you have friends or family members looking to join Harvie Farms, this is the time. We are offering a limited number of new memberships for both our farm box and butcher box options. These won't last for long. Thanks for helping us to spread the word. Here is the link: https://www.harvie.farm/signup/harvie-farms-pittsburgh.

UPDATED CUSTOMIZATION PERIOD

We have heard from you that a longer customization period would be helpful. Since we are not able to get the list out until Thursday at lunch, we have decided to extend the customization period for the farm box until noon on Friday. That at least gives a 24 hour period. However, our meat farmer needs the final list on Friday mornings, so the cutoff for the butcher boxes is still 7am on Fridays. As always, we encourage you to use and update your product preferences for both box types so that you only receive items you like the most. Please update your product preferences here.

BOX RETURN

We are all learning together this year, and that includes on the box return detail. We still want the Harvie Farms box, silver liner, and ice packs back. However, if you are able, our couriers would appreciate it if you could cut the tape on the bottom of the box so that the box can lay flat. Then just stack the ice pack and flattened liner on top of the box. That will save our drivers a lot of room in their vans, which will allow them to deliver more quickly. If you have set your packaging out to be picked up, and it has been left behind please email me so we can let the courier know.

Also, if you prefer, you can drop off your packaging directly at our warehouse at 150 54th St 15201 during business hours. Simply put them on the loading docks along the left side of the building. Please don't drop them off after hours. Thanks for your help on that one.
