Farm Happenings for August 24, 2021

Posted on August 20th, 2021 by John Zilnicki

Well this weekend will get interesting.  Been saying it for years, that we have been over due for a hurricane direct hit.  Sunday may be that day and well, we don't need that.  Yes, we need rain, we don't need 50+ MPH winds, or salt burn.  We are running our CSA for Tuesday as scheduled but will re-evaluate Monday morning if we need to push it back a day because of the storm.  We are keeping our fingers crossed as this storm will have a major impact on all farms for the remainder of our growing season.  Tropical storms usually bring a "salt burn"/wind burn, that will greatly impact most vegetation.  Also, the strong winds knock fruit, and fruit buds, off plants, greatly reducing future yields.  Our fingers are crossed for a fast, low impact storm.  We are sending prayers to all farmers in our region as well as to our community members who live by water, as this storm will have serious storm surge which will effect many on Long Island near water.

So, stay safe, keep an eye on the weather, and send a prayer up for all of us!

Your Farmer,

John
